Adventures

On foot, by horse, e-bike or rail-bike there are many ways to explore the multiple facets of this surprising region.

Day Hikes

Just walk out of the property and you are already on the PR3 walking trail which connects Castelo de Vide (to the right) and Marvão (to the left). As the medieval path narrows you will find yourself surrounded by Pyrenean oaks (Carvalho Negral) alongside secular stone walls or overlooking spectacular views. There are more than 15 other hiking trails in close proximity, below are some of our favourites.

Perhaps the kindest horses I have had the chance to ride, this is the most soothing way to discover the historical and natural beauties of the Raia (Spanish - Portuguese border). We highly recommend the Rota Sefardita (3h - historical Jewish route) for an immersive journey through the complex history which has shaped this area.

Another exciting way to visit, our new neighbours have brought over part of their fleet from their e-bike shop in Lisbon to allow visitors to explore the area on wheels. They have several routes which one can download and follow autonomously, the bikes can be rented for a few hours or a few days and Quinta da Saimeira guests benefit from a special discount!

Surprising in its beauty and expansiveness, the scenery surrounding the abandoned train line connecting Portugal to Spain unravels as you pedal over the train tracks. A truly fun experience for adults (with or without children)!

Rock climbing, kayaking, stand-up paddle

There are several impressive natural climbing walls on the border with Spain, we personally have not tried them yet but could inform you how to get there.

Our e-bike neighbours also have kayaks and stands-up paddles available to enjoy on the Apartadura or Povoa e Meadas lakes.
